Reader’s Roadie to Melville

It was a busy Saturday for me.

In the morning, I was covering the newsroom for our sister station, GX94, but after I got off work, I didn’t feel like sitting around home all night, so I figured what better to do on a Saturday night, than go and watch a little hockey!

I’ve been to a few Terrier games this season, but I hadn’t had the chance to get to Melville and watch the Millionaires in action. So, I figured I’d remedy that, and take a drive down Highway 10.

On Saturday, I decided to cruise on down Highway 10, and visit the newly-christened C.N. Community Centre in Melville, to watch the Millionaires in action.

It had been a while since I’d been there to take in the Mils live, and I’d forgotten what a nice barn the Mils get to call home.

The Millionaires have called this beaut of a rink home since 2011.

The Mils were squaring off against the visiting Weyburn Red Wings, and the home side got off to a great start, scoring just over a minute in, and they were off and running.

The opening draw! Let’s get this thing going!

The Mils were up 2-1 after 20 minutes, and led 5-2, after the second period.

Focused and ready…
The Mils defending their lead.

And of course, you can’t have a true hockey game without the two teams exchanging a few pleasantries!

Play nice, kids, or so help me, I’ll turn this rink around…

In the end, the good guys came out on top!

Victory is ours!

The Millionaires sent the crowd of more than 750 home happy, beating Weyburn, 6-2.

I had a great time, picked myself up a Mils shirt, and headed for home.

The only thing I didn’t do is pick myself up some poutine – a friend said they make some fantastic poutine in Melville, so I’ll put it to the top of my to-do list for the next game I go to.

And I plan to do that very soon!

Thanks for the hospitalilty, and Go Mils Go!!!
