The Yorkton Terriers selected five defenceman & four forwards during the 2024 edition of the SJHL draft.
In the two round 2009-born portion of the draft the Terriers selected with their first pick, third overall in forward Tyson Medernach. Medernach had 47 goals, 24 assists for 71 points in 28 games with Saskatoon Stallions U15 AA.
The Terriers added Prairie Storm U15 AA forward Layne McKechnie with second round pick. The 2009-born forward netted 18 goals and 30 points in 17 games this past season.
Layne’s older brother Luke is also a Terriers’ prospect.
Meanwhile in the six round, 2008-born draft the Terriers made two selections including the third overall pick, defenceman Austin Root from the Martensville Marauders 15AA program.
Root had 36 points in 26 games this past season and will suit up with the Prince Albert Mintos next season.
Root’s Marauder teammate and Sask. 15AA leading scorer Broden Wotherspoon wastheir second of round two picks. He had 41 goals, 24 assists for 65 points in 48 games.
The Terriers’ used the remaining selections on D Carter Stolte of the Saskatoon Riverkings U18 AA (Round 2), D Lane Keyowski of Parkland Elks U18 AA (Round 3), F Kaden Sperle of Unity (Round 4), Saskatoon defenceman Logan Hynd (5th round), and Saskatoon Blazers defenceman Jake Missura with their final pick in round number six.
Yorkton also completed a trade on draft dealing their 2022 first round pick Boston Schmidt to the Humboldt Broncos in exchange for 2024 second round pick & a future 2025 SJHL draft selection.
The Melville Millionaires were one of the busiest teams on 2024 SJHL draft day making ten total selections.
The Mils kicked things off with three first round picks in the 2009-born draft including their first selection, seventh overall in Estevan Bruins U15 AA forward Nathan Gardiner.
The Gainsborough product was 12th in league scoring compiling 19 goals, 42 assists for 61 points in 26 games this past season.
With the very next pick, the Mils added another dynamic forward Hudson Posnitkoff who had 51 points in 29 games with the Saskatoon Outlaws U15 AA while with the 11th selection they picked Swift Current Bronco U15 AA leading scorer Kasey Gleim, who had 58 points in 27 games.
Their last selection in that portion of the draft, they picked Northwest Wolfpack U15 AA forward Parker Salisbury in the second round.
Turning to the 2008-born draft, the Moneymen added six more prospects into the organization.
They picked up big defenceman Jack Lavallee out of Saskatoon with the 11th selection and Prairie Hockey Academy U17 Prep forward Carter Wingert at number 12.
The Millionaires rounded out the draft with three more defenceman in Rylan McConnell of Martensville 15AA in round three, Saskatoon Riverkings rearguard Caiden Stratychuk and Swift Current Broncos U18 AA Riley Schmiess both in round five and forward Chane Regush from Martensville sandwiched in between in the fourth round.
