Hangin’ out on the farm with Reader

Reader here! You guys may have noticed that I haven’t been hanging out with Eddie the last couple of days.

Due to some of my fellow newsroom staff enjoying some well-earned vacation time, I’ve been pressed into service, covering the Agriculture Desk for the next couple of weeks. So don’t worry – I’m not far away!

Over the Canada Day long weekend, I headed home to our family farm, a mile west of Conquest, Saskatchewan, to chill out, hang with the fam, and get into an Ag state of mind.

There’s no place like home. You can’t beat those Saskatchewan sunsets!

After the massive rain that hit pretty much everywhere across central Saskatchewan Thursday and Friday of last week, I set out for home, and luckily, I didn’t drive in too much rain.

(FYI, at the home quarter, we got just over three inches of rain, while at the other end of the farm, about 2 or 3 miles straight west, we got about 3-3/4 inches!)

On Saturday night, me, my parents, my brother Ward and his daughters, Abbie and Brynn took a drive out into the pasture to check out the cattle.

It was a wild Saturday night!

Actually, there was a bit of excitement, after we got the truck stuck, and Dad had to grab the tractor and chain to pull it out – something my nieces had never seen before. They figured that was pretty cool!

The girls got to see our horses, too!

It’s always great to be back home on the farm – it’s the one place on Earth where I can truly relax, and feel at home.

No matter where on Earth I roam, the farm is home.

And of course, I had to throw in a selfie with our super-energetic family dog, Lexi!

To quote Dorothy from “The Wizard of Oz”… “There’s no place like home!”

And everything’s better with some cows around…
