Team Parkland Valley holds Pep Rally ahead of 2024 Saskatchewan Summer Games

The countdown is on! In just over a week, the 2024 Saskatchewan Summer Games will kick off in Lloydminster, promising a week packed with excitement, competition, and community spirit.

Team Parkland Valley ignited this excitement with a vibrant pep rally on Wednesday night in Yorkton, bringing together athletes, coaches, and supporters from across the region.

“Everyone’s buzzing with excitement, as the Games are just over 10 days away. It was fantastic to gather our athletes from across the region to keep the momentum going and further our preparations,” said Chelsey Johnson, Parkland Valley’s Chef de Mission. “These athletes have been working relentlessly, and the rally was a wonderful opportunity for teammates to connect and build that team spirit.”

The Games will run from July 21-27 in the Border City, featuring a diverse range of sporting events. The first half of the week will highlight competitions in archery, canoe-kayak, golf, male soccer, female softball, Special Olympics Bocce ball, swimming, tennis, and volleyball.

As the week progresses, starting on July 24, the spotlight will shift to athletics, male baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, girls soccer, and triathlon.

Team Parkland Valley is sending a contingent to the Games, comprising 145 athletes, 30 coaches and managers, and 9 mission staff members.

This talented group is ready to showcase their skills and represent their region with pride.

“I’m eager to witness the athletes’ experiences and to see everyone come together. For many young participants, this ‘mini Olympics’ will be a monumental first,” Johnson added. “The sense of community and achievement experienced at these Games is invaluable. It’s not just about winning medals but also personal growth, camaraderie, and regional pride.”

Wednesday also saw the unveiling of the team’s banner and flag bearers for the Opening Ceremonies, adding another layer of excitement and anticipation.

Dual-athletes Drew & Demi Jepson from Esterhazy have been honored with the role of Banner Carriers, while Kerr Pendleton will proudly bear the flag. This symbolic responsibility underscores their dedication and leadership within the team.

The city of Lloydminster, straddling the Alberta-Saskatchewan border, is all set to welcome thousands of visitors, providing a unique blend of hospitality and festive atmosphere.
