Reader’s favourite pick-me-ups!

Hey, everybody! Reader here, and I have no problem admitting that sometimes, I get in a funk, and feel overwhelmed by life in general. Work, finances, personal relationships… they all can create a lot of stress, and I think it’s something we all can relate to.

The trick is to not let it get us down. I know it’s easier said than done, but all we can do it our best to stay upbeat, and keep forging ahead with a positive mindset.

A few months ago, I found this fridge magnet, and it made me laugh hard, as it perfectly encapsulates what I’m talking about.

The trick is to stay positive, even when things don’t quite feel that way.

What do you do to make yourself feel better when life’s got you caught between a rock and a hard place?

I do a few different things.

Obviously one, is to listen to music. Music is a huge part of my life, and no matter what kind of mood I’m in, when I put on some tunes, it never fails to make me feel better.

Another is to read a book, and let the story take my mind off of what’s bothering me. A good movie or TV show can do the same thing.

It never hurts to get out and get some exercise, either. A nice walk or jog, or maybe a workout at the gym gets the blood pumping and the endorphins rushing, making the body feel better, and giving you a little mental health boost.

And I won’t lie. I do indulge in a bit of retail therapy once in a while. Whether its picking up some new clothes, a book, something new for the kitchen… It gives me a little something to get excited about.

Probably the biggest thing is I talk to someone about how I’m doing. I know everybody has their own things going on, but sometimes, even if you can chat with family or friends for just a few minutes, and let them know how you’re doing, it can help tremendously. Bearing a burden on your own can be tough, but if you have someone that’s willing to help you share that weight a little bit, it can make a huge difference.

I was looking into ways to help boost the positivity in your life, and here’s a few tips on how to get yourself into a more positive frame of mind:

  1. Start Small: Jot down 3 things you’re grateful for each morning. It’s a nice way to kick off the day.
  2. Get active: Even a short walk can lift your spirits.
  3. Fuel up your mind: Read or listen to something that makes you feel good.
  4. Enjoy the great outdoors: Spend some time outside. Fresh air works wonders.
  5. Keep yourself in the present moment: Try a short meditation or just take some deep breaths. Maybe some yoga would help. I know I found it helpful!
  6. Good Vibes only: Hang out with people who make you feel happy and positive. If you have family and friends who you enjoy being around, make a point to spend some time with them!
  7. Baby Steps: Set small, easy goals and relish in the little victories. Goodness knows we’ll ever get anywehere by trying to get everything done all at once. It’s unrealistic, and sets ourself up for failure. Chip away at that list!
  8. Keep your sense of humour: Watch something funny or share a joke with a friend. And if something strikes you as funny in everyday life, embrace it, and give in to laughter. It really can be the best medicine sometimes!

Just let the positivity flow, and find smiles and laughter where you can. Don’t let life get you down!

And speaking of feel-good songs, here’s one of my favourites, that always picks me up and gets me moving! Enjoy!
