Adulting 101 with Reader!

Hello, everybody! Reader here, and today, I was reminded that even though I’m a grown man (that is about to turn 47 years old on Friday), there is still work to do, when it comes to being an adult, and taking care of the day-to-day stuff. That process never really ends, does it?

For me, I got a reminder that I need to check the mail more often!

Back in the good old days (the early 2010’s), mail used to be delivered right to your door. And it was glorious! I used to check my mail every day! But then, back in October of 2014, Canada Post brought in the first community mailboxes, and have added many more since.

Now, when I say this is a problem, I want to emphasize that I don’t check the mail as often as I should, not because I’m lazy. Not at all. Frankly it’s because I’m forgetful! My mailbox is one block over and one block up from my apartment. I pass by it every single day, going to and from work, and often think “I’d better stop and check the mail.” And that’s as far as the thought process goes.

Luckily, I don’t really get much mail of an important nature anymore. My bills come electronically, and all my money from the CRA, like GST cheques, Carbon rebates and tax refunds is direct deposited into my account. But I can still be better for checking my mailbox, and getting those sweet, sweet fast food coupons! ( I told you I need to work on my adulting skills… first the mailbox. Then, cooking more at home! Hey… it’s a process!)

Adulting: there’s always something that needs our attention, from paying bills to tackling that never-ending laundry pile or handling those surprise tasks that pop up. But let’s take a moment to breathe and remind ourselves that we’re all figuring this out together. It’s okay to pause, sip that cup of coffee (or Coke Zero in my case), and enjoy the small wins along the way.

Life’s not about doing it all at once but finding our own pace and rhythm. Embrace the journey, enjoy the ride, and remember—we’ve got this!
