The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League unveiled their Players of the Week honors for the first time, showcasing dominance by the Highway 10 rivals.
Yorkton Terrier captain Jaron Desnyoers earned the inaugural SJHL Player of the Week title, racking up 10 points in his first four games, including an impressive four-goal performance in his season debut against Weyburn on opening night.
Meanwhile, linemates from the Melville Millionaires claimed two major honors: Ryan Roethke was named SJHL Forward of the Week, and Caden Drury was recognized as the Saskatchewan-born Player of the Week.
Drury, in his third season with the Moneymen, skyrocketed to the top spot in the SJHL scoring race with 12 points in his first four games. Roethke contributed seven goals and 11 points in his debut season in the Rail City.
Heading just north, Melfort Mustangs defenseman and former Millionaire Nicholas Andrusiak was awarded SJHL’s Defenseman of the Week.
Andrusiak scored the overtime winner in Melfort’s season-opening victory in La Ronge and sits tied for first among blue-liners with six points.
Andrusiak’s teammate Kristian Coombs secured three wins to earn SJHL Goaltender of the Week.
Fellow netminder Brett O’Halloran was named SJHL’s Rookie of the Week after posting a 3-1 record, a 2.77 GAA, and a 0.908 save percentage in his first three games.
