Breakdancer Spins into Trouble: Man Develops ‘Headspin Bulge’ After Years on His Dome!

A 30-something breakdancer, after nearly 19 years of head-spinning, developed a tender bump on top of his head—a real head-turner, if you will. Known as “headspin holes” in breakdancing circles, these unsightly lumps can also lead to hair loss and discomfort. In this case, the man had been spinning on his head for up to seven minutes, five days a week, which eventually gave him this painful protuberance.

Doctors discovered a soft mass between his skin and skull, thickened tissue, and opted for surgery to remove it. This bizarre condition, nicknamed “breakdancer overuse syndrome,” isn’t widely studied, but breakdancers know it all too well. One German study found that 31% of breakdancers suffered hair loss, 24% had bumps, and 37% experienced scalp inflammation. Breakdancing really does come with some “heady” consequences!
