Reader here, and it happened.
It’s November 6th, and we woke up to something many of us were dreading.
It seemed inevitable, but alas, it happened, whether we like it or not.
That’s right… it snowed last night, for the first time of this fall/winter season.
Here’s what I walked outside to first thing this morning…
Yep. We got what I would describe as a “light dusting” of snow in the Parkland area. Certainly not snowfall to the level that other parts of Saskatchewan received, but enough to remind us what time of year it is, and what lurks around the corner.
Winter is not so far away, and I admit I did break out the snow brush this morning. Actually, I dug it out of the trunk over the weekend, when we got some pretty good frost Friday night, and I had to clear the windows before heading to Harvest Showdown on Saturday morning.
Luckily, the snow we did get last night is pretty much gone, and we’ll be back up into the double-digits temperature-wise, by the weekend. But there is no point throwing the brush back in the trunk. I’m sure I’ll need it again soon enough.
This morning, we received a call about people hitting the ditch on Highway 10, and it’s a reminder of how we all forget how to drive with the first snowfall of the year. It doesn’t matter if we’re 16, 96, or any age in between. Sometimes, it seems we all lose our ability to adapt to the conditions when the white stuff arrives. When there’s snow on the ground, and things are a little slick, give yourself a little extra time to get where you’re going, and a little extra room to stop.
I don’t have my winter tires on my car yet. I won’t be heading to the farm this weekend, but I will be the following weekend, so I’ll make sure to throw them on while I’m at home. Then, Quicksilver will be ready to roll for another winter season.
If the big snow wants to hold off as long as possible, that’d be great, but it’s best to be ready for when it arrives.
Drive safe, everybody!
