Reader and the Childhood TV Tunes that trigger Nostalgia!

Hey, everybody – Reader here!

Last week, I was sitting around home, and I found myself surfing the interwebs, and wound up on YouTube, as I often do.

I’m not sure how it came up on my suggested videos, but there was one from my younger days, when I was still at home watching Sesame Street.

Obviously, I clicked play…

Admit it. You knew the song before hitting the play button!

Now, when I say watching Sesame Street, I mean REAL Sesame Street, in the 80s. Back in the glorious days before it was all about Elmo. In fact I used to watch Sesame Street in the pre-Elmo days!

It was even before the days of “Sesame Park,” featuring the Canada-specific characters of Dodi the bush pilot, Louis the otter, and Basil the polar bear.

In my day (how old do I sound saying that?), to satisfy Canadian Content rules, there were a number of Canada-only segments made, many of which features both English and French language dialogue and songs.

After watching that first video above, I went down a rabbit hole for about an hour and a half, watching old Sesame Street videos from when I was a kid, and it was a case of plugging the nostalgia IV right into my vein!

One of the French language segments that remain burned into my brain to this day, is this charming little song, “Je T’aime Means I Love You.”

Another classic tune is “A Quarter Has a Caribou On It.”

There was also a great, rockin’ ode to one of the things that makes us different – our hair!

And, of course, a song that many people remember hearing, but has been a little tough to find.

Well, not only did I find the song, but the video is there as well.

It’s an ode to something near and dear to us in East Central Saskatchewan… the pierogi!

Man… back in the day, Sesame Street had some great music!

Eddie and I were discussing more of those TV tunes that trigger nostalgia, and he thought of a couple.

One was the “Fun Song,” from Spongebob Squarepants…

He also came up with the “Nations of the World,” from Animaniacs…

What a great way to learn about world geography!

We also put it to you, the listeners, to give us some of those TV tunes (not necessarily theme tunes), that take you back to when you were kids.

Several people mentioned the Sesame Street pinball tune, that kicked this blog off.

Other classic Sesame Street tracks noted were the “Ladybug Picnic.”

The “Alligator King” was another popular choice!

Of course, Fred Penner’s ode to one of the greatest food inventions of all-time got a mention!

And another Canadian kids anthem was noted, by the legendary Sharon, Lois and Bram!

And even one way back from the Flintstones was noted, as Pebbles and Bam-Bam sang a tune!

The great thing abut all of these songs, is that they can pop up in our minds when we least expect it, and put a smile on our faces, as we think back to a time when life was much simpler, and we didn’t have the troubles and concerns of adults.

The funny thing is, when we hear these tunes again, it’s amazing how we can even still remember all of the words, even after all these years.

Speaking of which, there is one more that I forgot.

From one of the greatest fictional bands to come out of Canada, the Zit Remedy, later known as the Zits.

This was the tune that was going to rocket Joey, Snake and Wheels to the top of the charts and superstardom.

Well, it didn’t quite work out that way, but they did rock the halls of both Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High!

Man, I would’ve been happy to make a cheesy music video too, if I knew it’d impress Caitlyn!

Who doesn’t love a good dose of nostalgia, especially when it’s as catchy as some of these tunes?
